Cycling has been brilliant for me. I’ve lost weight and it’s encouraged me to take up swimming as well!
I used to cycle when I was younger, but it went by the way-side as I grew older and became busy working and studying.
I realised I needed to get my fitness back and decided to try cycling to work in the city centre.
As well as the physical benefits, it’s really good how it keeps the stress levels in check. Cycling through the parks, past the nature and wildlife, is a big contrast to being in the office. It’s good sometimes to get out on your own and enjoy the independence.
My usual route is from Chorlton to the city centre – home and back is about 12km in total, but I now cycle to the swimming pool and gym as well.
I was a student in Manchester a few years ago and it’s great to return here and see lots more people out on their bikes, especially in the Oxford Road area.
The cycleways are really good and help you feel more relaxed. Manchester feels like a city very much looking to the future.
I’m really looking forward to my future of cycling. It’s already inspired me to eat healthier, and take-up other activities including yoga at work. I’m encouraging my friends and family to do the same too.
